Thought I would throw up a brief history of my collecting quest.
I started collecting back in the early 80's, mainly baseball and football. Lost interest during my high school years and ended up selling all of my baseball and football cards. Then after school (1990), got the itch to get back into it, and since I started playing hockey in a rec league, I went strictly with hockey cards.
I started doing sets and collecting Pavel Bure for a player collection, after a few years I had amassed a Bure collection with a book value of well over $20,000 (this was back in the 90's mind you). Well, I got bored with that, and sold off the Bure collection around 2003 and decided to try a new route to re-energize my collecting.
Since I am a big University of Michigan fan, and watch all the football, and every hockey game that I can of the Wolverines, I decided to try to collect cards of EVERY former U of M hockey player that made it to the NHL. Well, that was quite a chore, there were thousands of cards for all these guys, at one time I had over 5,000 different cards. Since that was costing me way more than I wanted to spend (got married and have 2 kids now!!), I decided to break that collection down and only collect a few of the players that I have either met, or really enjoyed watching play when they were on the Wolverines hockey team, and you can see those players reflected in my want lists, yea, some of them are not the greatest in the NHL, but when they were on the Wolverines, they were awesome!!
I have always been a Redwings fan, so I also collect some Wings stuff, been collecting Dallas Drake, Vladimir Konstantinov, and Nicklas Lidstrom since they broke into the league, and pick up other Wings stuff if I like the way it looks.
So, along with those player collections, I still put together sets, but not base sets anymore, I do mainly autograph sets or memorabilia sets now, and a few regular insert sets from time to time, if they catch my eye.
Well, thats about it for my collecting journey through the years.
